We must add support for Ed bindings.
There's a reason it's called an _Editor_ and not an "Emacsitor" or a "Viitor". It's because Ed is the Standard Editor (tm).

Seriously now, I personally use either SciTE or NEdit, depending on which is better on a given day. I purposefully stay out of the Emacs cult _and_ out of the Vi cult, although I occasionally have to deal with Vi considered the default (Linux newbies usually scream... and I know non-newbies who still scream because of Vi).
And of course, I will only add the bare minimum to g_rtext.c, and then I'll find an occasion to ditch the whole file and replace it by a smaller chunk of Tcl/Tk code, like I did for some other things. Then it'll be certainly easier to add your own bindings.
