Hi list,
PDP keeps crashing.. I'm running in under OSX; - i know that that isn't the preferable system - but i would like to get it working anyway.
These are the messages that i get. I'm running it as root#.
pd_gui: pd process exited
/Applications/Pd.command: line 1: 603 Segmentation fault
/usr/local/bin/pd -rt -path
/usr/local/lib/pd/extra:/usr/local/lib/pd/pdp_pidip_osx/abstractions
-lib /usr/local/lib/pd/pdp_pidip_osx/pdp -lib
zexy:bonk~:choice:expr~:fexpr~:fiddle~:lrshift~:loop~
socket receive error: Connection reset by peer (54)
/Applications/Pd.command: line 1: 593 Segmentation fault
/usr/local/bin/pd -rt -path
/usr/local/lib/pd/extra:/usr/local/lib/pd/pdp_pidip_osx/abstractions
-lib /usr/local/lib/pd/pdp_pidip_osx/pdp -lib
zexy:bonk~:choice:expr~:fexpr~:fiddle~:lrshift~:loop~
Another thing: if pd / pdp is started my terminal keeps adding empty lines. Any advice is welcome.
thanx,
sara
hi,
this happens when reading movies or with the capture device?
i've seen libquicktime crashing with many movies, maybe try to reencode them in photo-jpeg..
cheers, sevy

The pdp_ieee1394 object is in the patch, but even when it isn't activated, it's crashing [see first message below]. When the capture device is running, i get the second message.
All the movies i use are already encoded in photo-jpeg.

i've experienced crashes on OSX too and it's difficult to find what's wrong because i never managed to make it produce core files and analyze them with a debugger.
that's a tough job..

Actually the way I found that works on OSX is to turn GDB on _before_ the crash happens. You can do this either by first starting GDB and then running Pd inside of it (e.g.: commands "file", "run"), or by running Pd first and then giving its PID to GDB (the --pid switch or the "attach" command or whatever)
I don't recall having luck with coredumps (but I'm not completely sure)
(note: I'm running OSX 10.2.8)

There is a crashlog that the OS writes to when an application
segfaults. You can find this by opening the Console.app in
/Applications/Utilities and clicking on the Logs button in the window.
There will be a list of various logs and the relevant pd one will be
under the ~/Library/Logs tab and inside the CrashReporter tab. Crash
logs have a ton of info in them, but the most useful bits begin after
the 'Thread 0 Crashed: ' heading.

oh, i didn't about these special logs of OSX, thanks for the hint, cgc.
as for the solution, hum, seems located in libquicktime, maybe report it on their list... i feel i can't help.
cheers, sevy
