IOhannes can chime in too but I believe Pd has used Tcl 8.5+ for a very long time on Linux. This was before macOS since the system used to come with 8.4 while Linux had already moved on.

And on Linux Mint 21.2 (based on Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS), 'tcl' is in version 8.6.11+1build2 (coming from Debian).
