Me, Linux, too. Would you report this to our bugtracker at http://pure-data.sf.net/ ?

Hi, this seems to be a problem on all version 0.39's on all platforms.
I fixed it a minute ago in devel_0_39.

Good for devel_0_39. However: Why do you use "&s_float"? I'd say, "&s_bang" would be more appropriate.
To those not reading pd-cvs: See here for Matju's fix: http://lists.puredata.info/pipermail/pd-cvs/2005-11/004877.html
In Pd-MAIN all this happens around line 981.

I'd suggest "&s_symbol"....

I'd suggest post("WARNING: trigger is deprecated")
and then gensym("pute")
Or &s_symbol_of_the_week, which should be redefined every monday so that users don't get bored.
Or just &s_ because it behaves more interestingly when one tries to save it to a file.

I'd suggest "warning: Pd's symbol type is lame", which is the real truth :)
I hope future computer music language designers find a better way to do types than I did in pd. I would caution that many computer music 'languages' which actually managed types intelligently later died because they were too fastidious.

Hm, this of course also is a possibility, probably even the better one. However it will make [print] print "symbol symbol" whereas an empty [symbol( connected to [print] will print just "symbol". Well, and &s_bang will lead to "symbol bang", which also isn't an empty symbol. Darn. ;)
Anyway, IMO both "symbol bang" and "symbol symbol" look better than "symbol float", which is very misleading.

what about gensym("")?

Oh, this works? <compiles, tests, success> It does! Then I'd prefer this solution the most.

I'd say &s_bang too, if I cared about [t], but I think it's too late to have a good [t], so I chose the way of the whackwards-compatibility.
Personally, I'd rather have it replaced by something like jMax's [fork].
The type conversion part of [t] doesn't really convert anything.

Also look at older versions of Pd-MAIN's x_connective.c which did exactly the same &s_float business but worded differently.
