the [switch~] doesn't really make sense here: you are only turning off the calculation within the subpatch, which contains only a [*~] anyhow (so the effect of turning that on is quite minimal).

Yes, I had many of them in a resource-limited environment (mobile device), and so the optimization seemed worthwhile...but don't have hard data on the difference.
