Hallo!
I discoverd this behaviour all the time on various computers ... I
only have one working hid binary, compiled 1 year ago, which works everywhere ... (but I can try to give you more information about those crashes next week ...)What platform? Which kernel? Which devices? Which version of [hid]?
my platform: debian - kernel 2.6.15 and I also tried it on some other debian systems ... devices: mouse and keyboard version: current cvs (and I also tried it half year ago or so ...)
see e.g. also the thread: "[PD] hid segmentation fault" by Gerda Strobl, I got the same backtrace ...
did you never got those crashes ? let me know which information would be usefull ...

The crashes are caused by the changes to the input reports in the 2.6 kernel and [hid] was developed on 2.4. The CVS version of [hid] should have them all fixed AFAIK.
But if you need [hid] to be stable, try it on a 2.4 kernel.

Ok, please send info. Bug reports are most appreciated, as much info as possible, and a Pd console log too. Its hard to tell what's going on from "I used hid and it crashes".

Oh, its hard to tell since you've removed the context in the message. I think its quite handy to leave all of the text of the previous messages in place, then I can refresh my poor memory.
So the april 2005 version of [hid] doesn't crash at all? Where's that binary from?

I already posted everything I know ATM ... I also did a gdb backtrace, which is the same as the one in http://lists.puredata.info/pipermail/pd-list/2005-08/030339.html
Tomorrow I will be back at that computer and can give you a console log...

IMHO it's not easy to read, if someone quotes that much all the time ... see also http://lists.puredata.info/listinfo/pd-list:
<quote> Postings should conform to the "netiquette" as explained in http://learn.to/quote </quote> I use the thread view of my mail program if I want to re-read the old messages ... but anyway, back to hid ... ;)

I compiled hid from cvs last april or so ... this binary still works ...
