I was wondering if anyone has had experience using the Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000 on OS X with GEM, and [pix_video]. I just bought that camera, and I can get it to work with iCamShare, but with Pd I get no input and ths error message repeated over and over again:
GEM: pix_videoDarwin: no video yet pix_videoDarwin: SGIdle failed
if anyone can help I would be very appreciative.
thanks
David J. Kendall
Try changing the colorspace of the pix_video object. 'colorspace rgb' should do it.

Hmm. I just tried changing the colorspace, but that did not seem to help matters much. Again, the camera seems to be work with other programs that capture video, but not with Pd. Incidentally, I just tried running the same camera in to Pd/GEM on windows, and it causes the program to crash.
Should I get a refund on this camera and buy another that is better suited for PD/Gem and OS X? Has anyone had success with other camera models running in to pd/gem on os x?
thanks
David

i have used a logitech pro (i think it's the "3000" model) with pd+gem on osx and it works perfectly. i dont understand why yours shouldnt work as well. but then again, i'm no webcam wizard... best

It is rather perplexing. The camera does seem to work fine everywhere except in Pd. My suspicion is that this problem is either related to the driver I specially downloaded to get the device to work with OS X, or else it might have something to do with how Pd and Gem are installed on my system. I may try re-installing Pd/GEM and see if that helps, though I don't know what he likelihood of that is.
If I may ask, were you running 0.37 with the logitech quickcam, or were you using the 0.38 bundled app? I wonder if the directory structure of the new app is screwing up GEM's attempts to locate the video input.
thanks for the help..

i dont think thats the matter here. i ran it when i had 0.37 and now with the bundled app. just checked it again and it works just fine. have you tried the same patch with other cameras? r
you are not the only one who is NOT getting the quickcam to work.
as i posted earlier (search the archives "quickcam 4000")

Hi Max, I recently saw a post on the PD list in which you had trouble getting a quickcam 4000 working with Gem. I'm having the same problem and was wondering if you got it to work. Thanks. Jim
I see. It appears that the problem is with the model of the camera itself, and that the Quickcam Pro 4000 simply has problems running on GEM OS X. I suppose it's time to exchange cameras.
thanks for all the help,
David

GEM uses the standard Quicktime SequenceGrabber API that most capture applications use. It's possible that GEM isn't finding the component for the camera - the console will have errors related to this. Do you have more than one capture device plugged in?
I have seen everything from $30 webcams to $3000+ DV cameras work in GEM, so I don't really know what's going on in your case.
