Is there a way, using either of these externals, to change the name of the stream dynamically. I don't mean the mountpoint, just the title of the stream as it appears in the player.
thx, d.
as for mp3cast~, there is a 'name' message that should change it.

Yes, but I was hoping for something which does it dynamically, without having to restart the stream.

Use shoutcast~, it updates the song title by opening a separate socket to the server and telling it the change. But whether this is supported also depends on the server _and_ player. I only tested it with Icecast2....

[mp3cast~] in -nogui mode gives this error:
mp3cast~: initialising buffers error: mp3cast~: lame_encode_buffer_interleaved failed (-1)
System is Gentoo Linux, PD version 37.1
I tried putting a netreceive in the subpatch as well, as suggested in other places.
The mysteries of -nogui never cease, do they?

just checking, but do you have a "loadbang" to "; pd dsp 1" ?
maybe dsp is not turned on in your patch and lame isnt' getting any data to send.

Yup, got that one covered. It is a patch which starts up when PD starts, and functions as expected with the GUI. I've had lots of weird unpredictability with the -nogui flag, so somehow this isn't too suprising.
