hi all,
Next week I will teach Composing with Pure Data course at Media Lab
Helsinki and I would like to proudly announce that it has already been
one of the advanced studies in the curriculum since five years for
both MA and DA students. Each year this course received a growing
amount of attention which resulted in using Pd in student master
thesis, relevant projects and live performances. As Pd environment
evolved over the years, course curriculum also updated itself. Besides
the regular Sound - Image - Network - Physical modules, this year I
will introduce RjDj and involve OpenCV examples in the Image module.
This course also increased the attention to the open source
environments in new media studies and applications. There is no doubt
that Pd community deserves the warmest thanks for the success of this
course :)
cheers,
Koray

Hey Koray,
It's been a brilliant year at SAE Institute too. Looking through the assignments from my last intake of audio engineering students makes me well proud and optimistic. They have been using Pure Data for all sorts of stuff, from compositions to audio games, effects processing plugins and custom DAW applications.
I've made a syllabus for Sound Design at masters level which may get used at a couple of universities, and it uses Pd extensively. Also been mentoring a growing number of research students using it for PhD or post doc work, so it's become such an important tool - I hope the community and Miller remain aware of the wonderful things Pd has enabled.

Hi Andy,
It is always nice to know how Pd has been used in research and in
academic field as well as in artistic practices. Well, sometimes these
practices all merge with each other, and Pd has been an environment
that resonates well with people's expectations in these fields. I am
sure the community and Miller both are aware of that :)

Hey Koray, Andy, and all,
Glad to hear your courses went well! I just read my course reviews
from my Dataflow class last semester, and it sounds like it went well
from the students' perspectives. I find the hardest and most
important thing is coming up with fun, interesting, yet simple
examples for class. It would be great if we can share class
materials, here's my syllabus:

Hey Hans,
I am working on reorganizing the course materials and I will upload it
under my Pure Data user folder then I will send you. You have more
interesting examples then I do :) I guess we can update URLs or video
links for syllabus, workshop and good Pd examples at http://puredata.info/dev/pddp/PdUniversityCourse
or some other place, then we can inform Pd-list when we update
something. Definitely it will be great if we share class materials.
After the next week's course I will do the update.
Koray.
