hi all
some poeple already heard about it, others maybe not. i'm working on a project, that allows several users to make music in realtime over the internet. netpd also provides a bunch of abstractions, that can be used to make an existing patch 'netpd-able' or to create a complete new netpd-patch. if you are interested, please visit: http://www.netpd.org and download the netpd-package (needs pd>=0.38, zexy>=1.3 and maxlib>=1.5.2) a few people spread over the world are already using netpd and have a session occasionally. if you could set up netpd and connect to the server, ask somebody, who is online, for a short demo. some poeple are online very often, so the chance is not too small, that you meet somebody.
if you have questions, send me an email, but maybe its faster to aks me or someone else in the netpd-chat.
hope to make sound with you soon.......
cheers roman

Hi Roman,
This looks great, can't wait to try it out! Listening to some of the mp3s now - very cool.
It would be great to have a listing on the site with server names and
times of sessions that are open to join.
Best, p

thank you for your response. actually there is no other server than netpd.org:3025, since the community is still too small, that more servers would make much sense.
also there aren't fixed times for sessions yet. most of the time they happen spontaneously. but it would might be a good idea to have a weekly returning time for a session or so.

I agree with the having a site listing thing. Even just an accessible log of when people HAVE been doing it in the past would help to know when people are LIKELY to do it again.
I also am excited by this project. enrique has been getting me started. cool stuff! -m

here a list of recorded sessions (with date-info): http://195.176.254.167/~all/mp3/?M=D
a lot of the sessions haven't been recorded, so this is maybe not too meaningful.
i'll try to find a date/time with the other guys for the next session. i'll let you know....
in the meantime just go online and see if someone else is online.
I also am excited by this project. enrique has been getting me started. cool stuff!
thx

once the net speeds up and we can get samples on there...i'm in with bells on.
i'm so shit at synthesis!
Nice tracks. It would be great to have netpd distributed as part of
the various packages. Then people wouldn't have to install it, it would
just be part of Pd-extended. The biggest thing that needs to be done
to make this happen is to get netpd into the CVS. Then getting it into
the build system is relatively easy.

that would be very nice... :-)
first i need to make myself comfortable with the cv-system. then i want to be sure, that there aren't any major bugs in netpd, since it has been de- veloping and maybe still is. i'll test everything 'auf herz und nieren' in the next weeks, then i'll probably need your help to check the things in.

It looks cool, I'd like to try it, but the font is so tiny that is unreadable on OSX (check attached pdf). You need to use a minimum of 10 point to make it visible on OSX. Linux is somewhere in between Windows and OSX, but closer to OSX. The settings panel the netpd programs look quite promising too.
My bro Josh Steiner and I wrote serendiPd (http://at.or.at/serendiPd )
a while back to do collaborative Pd performance, but also to do shared
patch editing as well. Its stuck at the alpha stage because its not
really possible to do shared editing well without a ton of work.
Shared patch playing is feasible currently and could probably be made
work decently with some work.
How are you grabbing/managing the control data?

This will be possible with DesireData, but I don't know how far the current development is and when it will be useable ...

hi hc
hm..... because the font-sizes differ on various os, i introduced the settings-dialog. i use pd on win and on linux, so i assumed when it looks good on both, it'll hopefully ook good on osx. but the appearance of a certain font-size differs on different linux-boxes, since the appearance depends on some start-flags of the x-window-system. i found out, that the main pd font (obj, text, etc) stays the same, but the labels (where you can choose from courier, helvetica and times) varies with different settings or different distributions.
fontsize 10 on windows looks so ugly, that i cannot use it as a default-setting for chat/creator, but a compromise might be adequate.

can you test for me: does it look good with fontsize 9? (use the settings-dialog to change. it is the third button)

I believe that this is because they use two different fontspec formats, and both are in use in PureData. The long one (X11-style) picks a font very specifically, while the short one (like {Courier 10 Bold}) might be mapped to whichever the first (or best) matching font is.

a few abstractions come with netpd, that make it easy to broadcast different types of data (floats, symbols, list).some of them are created especially for certain guis, so it's very easy to snychronize slider for example or an array. all abstractions send their data to chat.pd, that sends it to the server. theoretically - in order to convert an existing patch into a netpd-patch - it should be possible to insert the appropriate netpd-abstraction after the gui, that you want to synchronize. in practice it is often a little more complicated, it depends on the patch. a simple synth-patch should be very easy to convert.
