it's a question i wanted to have discussed earlier. but i had to start
with printing and one thing led to another so i haven't figured it out
completely.
(there is no centralised effort)
do you think there should be a more centralised effort, in order to
make pd more useable? then it would be a good idea to have a concept
(maybe one can adopt a concept from another open-software).
if one prefers documentation as it is, i'll sit down with some pd guys
and think which objects need good documentation and award some pd guys
for writing some nice documentation. possibly award good documentation
too.
dont be too enthusiastic its not like i'm selling porsches, of course.
so theres not going to be much money coming out of merch. but i belive
it might be enough for some enhancement on documentation and i do
belive it motivates the community.

Well, it would be good to have some of us agree on some things, but at this point, we can't even agree on the helpfile format. I believe that the best format for helpfiles is the one currently used by GridFlow (or a future version of that format), together with its system of abstractions and externals that make it easier to edit manually and to process automatically. At this point, Hans just stated that he doesn't want documentation elements to be abstractions, and didn't explain his opinion at all. So, to me, the debate is sort of stuck there.
then it would be a good idea to have a concept (maybe one can adopt a concept from another open-software).
What do you mean by "concept" ?

There was an effort to standardize help patches (not sure about centralizing them). Search puredata.info for PDDP.
Btw- there are already some revised help patches here:
https://puredata.info/Members/jwilkes/doc/view
All the vanilla help patches have the same template (well almost all of them).
As far as centralization, I've put a [pd META] subpatch in every external's help patch in the doc folder. I'm not quite through filling in the data but each one will have standardized info for inlets, outlets, keywords, author, description, and library, so if someone wants to make a plugin to search for objects they could use the META subpatch data and already get some decent search results.
There's a stop gap search patch I included for fun that's semi-functional-- search-test.pd. For instance:

Is there an option for North Americans? Shipping? Print our own?

I still have a stack of Pd Convention 2007 (Montréal) t-shirts in my office. They're not "bang" t-shirts, the print is a chopped up version of a score of a H-C Steiner piece. They're for sale, but I'm not advertising them enough. They were donated to me by Marc Fournel (one of the heads of the 2007 Convention).

you might have to pay some customs duty. shipping costs depend on
amount of tshirts: 6 euro at least (might be 2 shirts)
would you like to ship to other pders inside the us as well? i could
send you bunch of shirts at low price, and you just resell them for
canada and us... i imagine there are some guys there who want them...
best

Nice work Max! I want to order some to the USA whenever the customs
stuff is figured out.
I think since you are doing the work of making and selling the shirts,
I think you should decide where the money goes.

Hi list,
since I travel to Germany in a few weeks, I'm gonna order a number , I think 10 pieces at least for the Crealab in Nantes, so if anyone in Aachen / BXL / Paris / Orléans / Nantes is interested, let me know for pre-order, the van has plenty of room! ++ OH

I don't know... [bang(-design t-shirts have always been more popular than the datastructure [filledpolygon] design of the 2nd convention. Probably several people still have a [bang( t-shirt as was printed in Ottawa in late 2005 or so. Some of us have two of them... I do, therefore I wouldn't buy a [bang(-[until]... there are always more newcomers in the scene, but I don't know how many of them would like a [bang(-[until].
Well, maybe you could ask on the pdmtl list whether anyone wants a t-shirt.

Hi,
here's what i've found out:
shipping costs outside Europe for 2 shirts are 6 €, for like 10 shirts
shipping costs are 13,90 €.
if i send 2 shirts you most likely wont have to pay duty fees - i cant
garantee that but i ensure I have a trustworthy source (namely the ihk
oberfranken ;) )
duty fees for the us: 33 % of value of goods.
duty fees for canada:
18 % of value of goods + sales tax (depending on region - about 5% -->
so 23 %)
example 1: 10 shirts to canada: 120 € for me (incl shipping) (app 150
cad) you'll end up paying round about 185 cad
example 2: 2 shirts to the us: 34 € for me (incl shipping) (app 40 $)
if everything like i got it described you wont have to pay more than
that. if however something goes wrong at the border in a worst case
you pay 52 $ for 2 shirts.
I hope that clears things up. I'm afraid I don't have influence on
your governments tax systems, especially not on their duty policy.

Are you sure it depends on the region ? Looks like only the federal sales tax is applicable. Then is the tax cumulative on the duty ? That would make 5% + 18% + 5%*18% = 23,9%.
If the applicable sales tax does depend on region, then for Québec it would be 12,875% and together with the duty that is 12,875% + 18% + 12,875%*18% = 33,1925%.
That is unless I'm unaware of other possible cases in the applicability of taxes per region...
btw the €/cad rate right now is the best ever, at 0,795 ! at last christmas it was only 0,66 ... that's quite a difference.
