Hi,
Happy New Year ! :)
this is my first post to this list and I am also right at the beginning to explore PureData.
I want to use PureData as a synthesizer for sounds and I will not use the midi interface, since I have no keyboard...
I am using a up-to-date Gentoo-Linux with linux kernel 2.6.31.11. .
As a starting point I compiled and installed the vanilla-version of PureData on the system manually and it "works" (read: I was able to get a sine wave sound via alsa).
So far so nice! :)
The interface is pure black and white.
But on the net I saw wonderful colored snapshots of the interface.
Have I forgotten to install something extra, an addon for example, a plugin or...?
Thank you very much for any help in advance!
Best regards, mcc
Hello Meino,
Right or CTL click any GUI element, and you will see the properties which you can use to change sizes, colors, etc. For a colored background, use the Put menu to place a canvas on the screen and change it's size and color. PD remembers the order in which things are placed in the patch, so put your canvas down first, or Cut and Paste any objects you want to stay on top of the canvas. For more patch beautification, check out abstractions and subpatches:

Besides following Derek's instructions, if what you want is to change pd colors aiming for a more confortable canvas look while programming, you can take a look into the pd.tk file. In my Xubuntu version it is found in the folder /usr/lib/pd/bin Once inside there (edit pd.tk as a text file) scroll till # color scheme. You can tweek all the colors, but remember that this is seen like you fix it _only in your machine_, and this fix works for all your patches. Best!
