Hi there,
while it is possible to create objects in an abstraction dynamically (via obj x y name - messages), it doesn't seem possible to delete them with a cut-message: a |editmode 1, mouse x y 0 0, cut, editmode 0( - message will be rejected right after the first comma. Please see the attached patch for details
. It would be really great if someone could help me out here. I want to use this technique to build an user interface dynamically, and I can't think of any other way to do this (apart from vis-messages, but they open a new windows, which is not exactly what I want).
Thanks in advance, thoralf.

The mouse and edit commands only work on a canvas, that is visible. As your patch shows, visibility through GOP doesn't seem to be enough, it has to be *reallly* opened. So unless you wrap your editing in vis 1/0/1 messages, you seem to be out of luck here.

Damn. I get the feeling that creating user interfaces with pd that are both usable and not too offending to one's eyes is a story about working around the shortcomings of workarounds that won't work because ... [insert your favourite iteration algorithm here].
thank you anyway, thoralf.

Data structures recently got "visibility" switches, which could open an interesting new way of workarounds here. Imagine you build a clickable area, either using [tot] or an array of radio buttons, maybe hidden with a canvas. On top of them, you could put your data structures whose visibility is then switched on and off according to mouse actions.
Yves would say: "hacking ..."

hey, man, i would never reproach anyone to hack something... that's the essence of what we do, i would just say : 'mm, interesting, but is that fast and efficient?'
anyway, i can't see how you could simulate an object like sonogram~ with the data structures ( and can you cut & paste ? ), mmm..
cheers, sevy

Hi Thoralf, you might want to use dyn~, which facilitates PD scripting a lot.
all the best, Thomas

Hi Thomas,

wow, this indeed looks like a mighty tool to play with ... Unfortunately, I need the gop feature in my case, and dyn doesn't seem to support this ... yet?
with kind regards, thoralf.

oh, i see... no, dyn~ won't support visible patches including GOP, sorry.

hi list, is there a way to find out the soundcard in+out latency from within pd? need that for purrrfect av-sync.
