Hi all . I m under win xp and wonder if there is a mouse ( or keyboard ) object that will send data into the device , or simulate a virtual device to controle other application with pd . Thank 3o3
Try [grid], [MouseState], [gemmouse], [key], [keyup], [gemkeyboard].

Thanks , but i have to be under winXP for other software .

Unfortunatly , i can't do that ( don't know how )
If you had a mouse driver that took input from a network socket, then you could use Pd to process everything and send the control data to that network socket.
Do you know where can i find such a driver ? , or where should i search
If you just wanted to control the mouse when using Pd, then you could do everything in Pd.
Great , that 'll be a good start for me , but i can not use any entry
from [gemmouse] .
On a side note, in order to use the polhemus in Pd, you could use [linuxevent] as long as the Linux drivers provide an event system interface (/dev/input/event2 for example).
Do [linuxevent] could work under winXP ? ...( sorry :)
Thanks again 3o3

I don't of anything that exists, that was just an idea.

Try the [MouseState] object from cyclone. You need to have Gem loaded
to use the [gemmouse] object. Both of these should be included in the
Windows installer.

Nope, only Linux.

did you mean is there some way of writing into the keyboard/mouse buffer to SIMULATE inputs that could be used to control applications OTHER than pd? as far as I know this is not possible so far (but I may be very wrong); simulating mouse input makes no sense though, as it is unclear what it would do with any real mouse input.

Ah I get it. So the processing of the webcam, midi, polhemus would be
relatively easy in Pd, the tough part would be taking that data and
making it control the mouse pointer. You'd need to write some kind of
mouse driver. If you had a mouse driver that took input from a network
socket, then you could use Pd to process everything and send the
control data to that network socket. If you just wanted to control the
mouse when using Pd, then you could do everything in Pd.

Zozizosu- If you haven't already solved the problem, Windows XP includes some "Accessibility" features which may help in an odd way. Start: Control Panel: Accessibility Options SerialKey devices - accepts formatted data through the serial port to perform mouse and keyboard actions.
If you have TWO extra serial ports and a crossover cable between them, and the [com2000] Pd object, Pd could
parse the data, 2. output SerialKey commands out through Com2, 3. to the SerialKey port at Com1 (default port), which would move XP's GUI mouse around the screen, and press keys, as you wish..

hi,
you may be interested in an unrelated project for keyboard entry called dasher: http://www.inference.phy.cam.ac.uk/dasher/ it uses continuous streams of flowing characters to emulate text input, with intuitive word and phrase completion.. is opensrc and available for a large chunk of platforms. designed specifically for disabilities and has a unique aesthetic interface.. hope it helps!
