Hey all,
The final test import is underway on the actual server:

Now we are ready to start setting up sites in whatever language
people want. Here's the key: in order to setup a given language, we
need at least one volunteer to be the maintainer of that language
section. You will then be given "bureaucrat" and "sysop" status so
that you can admin that site.

Ok, I created it:
Create an account and tell me what your account name is, and I'll add
it as admin. Also, if you want, we can run the import of the
existing English content into the Turkish pdpedia, if you think that
would be helpful. It would at least lay out the framework.

what I did was working with database files. I found it much easier to edit in one big file than to edit every page. so for translations, you could use that. there is a way to generate page-textfiles from a csv file and then import them into the wiki. marius.

hi,
is there an "pdpedia administrator for dummies" guide? (if not, I could
make one as I go) What are the steps to be made? Should I wait until the
english version is more structured and then copy/translate everything? (I
wasn't in the discussions and just jumped into this, but I guess that all
languages should have the same structure, right?)

I would start with the english version, and then translate it bit by bit. you can translate the infobox, then the page structure, and then the sites. you can do translation before you upload the object sites in a database file. you will have colomns with english and can translate from one column to the next. but you also could just leave english text and translate it later online. to setup a wiki for your language you will also have to create wiki specific templates in your language like the infobox and stylesheet (copy and paste from english). marius.

Hans was saying something about setting up the infobox, so I think I
should wait for him.
meanwhile I created

useful to the next guys that decide to join up.

create a site called Template:Infobox_Objectclass and copy and paste the text from the english http://wiki.puredata.info/en/Template:Infobox_Objectclass into it. then go to http://wiki.puredata.info/en/MediaWiki:Common.css and copy the content to http://wiki.puredata.info/pt/MediaWiki:Common.css that's it. marius.

exactly which text of the infobox page should be translated?
create a site called Template:Infobox_Objectclass and copy and paste the
text from the english
http://wiki.puredata.info/en/Template:Infobox_Objectclass into it. then go to http://wiki.puredata.info/en/MediaWiki:Common.css and copy the content to http://wiki.puredata.info/pt/MediaWiki:Common.css
not all of these fields are used right now, but maybe later. the text in curly brackets{} is only in the background. the text in brackets [] will be displayed in the infobox.

sorry, but your answer wasn't clear.
there are 2 sections in the file Template:Infobox Objectclass, the 2nd one
in the <noinclude> part. Which text from it must be translated?
I know things are just beginning, but it's better to say things clearly
and slowly to be more efficient. That's why I'm documenting everything in
the how-to page. If you want write a line of translated text in german,
and it will be clear.

You'll need to use the same terms that you sent for the template
generation. They'll need to have the same case and spacing:
# infobox $name = "Nome"; $description = "Descrição"; $abbreviation = "Abreviatura"; $library = "Bbiblioteca"; $author = "Autor"; $developer = "Programador"; $releaseVersion = "Nº de versão"; $releaseDate = "Data de lançamento"; $dependencies = "Dependências"; $license = "Licença"; $website = "Website"; $programmingLanguage = "Linguagem de programação"; $platform = "Plataforma"; $operatingSystem = "Sistema operativo"; $language = "Linguagem"; $dataType = "Tipo de dado"; $distributions = "Distribuição";

Pdpedia is modelled after Wikipedia, so I think that the Wikipedia
rules apply unless otherwise discussed. This is all quite new and no
one really knows how to do it, so try things out.
Plus, I think that each language should be autonomous, like
wikipedia. Yes, standards and sharing work are good, but they should
be accepted by those involved in that language site.
For docs, the mediawiki site, the wikipedia site, and the #mediawiki
chat room are good:
