Hi list,
I'm running pd on winxp and am very much a beginner. Today I noticed something strange when installing an external. I am unable to delete the last remaining lines which I previously added to the "path search" and "startup" options dialogue. Every time I delete and save settings and restart the program, the same line shows up again. Is this a bug or is it my pc? Are these configurations saved somewhere on the computer? I have reinstalled the same version of pd twice but the line is still there even after a fresh reinstallation.
yes. that's a bug. under windows the "path search" and "startup" settings are saved in the registry. using regedit you can get rid of the wrong settings.
sven.
I find it much easier to keep several configs or load many libs with th old bat, and much cleaner & safer than having to tweak the registry (which you will need to do if you use 'path' or 'startup'). IMHO I think the dialogs are just more confusing thn the .bat, at least in w$.

Hi,
Actually, I am having a hard time on Mac OS X as well. I understood that the .pdrc file will be forgotten. Too bad, because, it is the easiest way to start Pd on Linux, at least. I would say I don't like much this Tk dialog.
I was wondering if there was a way to start Pd.app from the command line on OS X... I didn't try very hard though.
Also, on OS X, my audio preferences are *always* forgotten by Pd every time I start it. So, I always need to open a patch (so that the preferences menu appears) and then choose to have 2 audio outputs and inputs... Am I the only one with this problem ? This is on Pd-0.38-4-extended-RC1, which I found was more stable than most other release. Maybe I should use an other version ?

...well, I still use a .pdrc on osx, too, because the Tk dialog is
still early in it's implementation...at least for me, there aren't
enough entry boxes for all my paths and extensions, but this'll get
fixed in time...

...sure: all you have to remember is that an *.app is just a series
of directories...the important binary is always in the directory
"Pd.app/Contents/MacOS/"...and then make sure it's "pd" or "Pd"...so,
try "./Pd-0.38-4-extended-RC1.app/Contents/MacOS/Pd"...

...dunno about this...

Hi, I found a fix to this. (see the bug below) I don't know if I made this happen by a bad configuration somewhere, or by the quantity of versions of Pd I have on my disk. I did it on every version. This is what I wrote in my .pdrc to fix it :
-audioindev 1 -audiooutdev 1 -inchannels 2 -outchannels 2

Well, in fact, the .pdsettings is just a new and in some parts improved .pdrc as you can still edit it the same way on Linux using a decent text editor. However Windows doesn't even include a decent text editor ...
