Personally I like to use Steve Harris' SC1 compressor by loading it via the LADSPA [plugin~] unit. There's more cool dynamics processing stuff in the LADSPA collection than you can shake a stick at, faves of mine are the Dyson Compressor and Barrys Satan Maximiser which is as perfectly Evil(tm) as it sounds. a.

this is roughly what a compressor does... i don't know of any compressor patches off the top of my head though.

Hallo!
There's a [compressor~] in Unauthorized. Actually I think this is very useful to noobs because it has only one parameter, a "compression amount" ranging from 0 to 4
and you can make a more advanced compressor in pd with zexy's [limiter~] (see the helppatch ...)

this is not a compressor, though the name is a bit misleading. what it does is _not_ a dynamic processing of the incoming signal, but it is a kind of a waveshaping. put an array on its output in the help-patch, and you will see that it 'only' shapes the waveform, which produces harmonics (normally you try to avoid adding harmonics when compressing).
