Hello,
I made a test with Pd version 0.42-5 and GEM: ver: 0.92.1 GEM: compiled: Sep 22 2009
And the text2d object with antialias, I view a crasy performance difference between windows and Mac. Same patch - same Pure Data - Same Gem
Patch : http://www.th-th.fr/DOCS/Test-Gem/main-test.pd
MAC OS X - 10.5.6 2.8 GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon => CPU load in percent 25% http://www.th-th.fr/DOCS/Test-Gem/MAC-Test-Texte-2d-antialias.png
Windows XP - Service pack 3 2 GHz Intel Pentium M => CPU load 4.6% http://www.th-th.fr/DOCS/Test-Gem/PC-Test-texte-2d-antialias.png
Is that normal?
Cheers Thomas Thiery

yep.
[text2d] uses bitmapped fints, which generally perform way worse than vertex-based fonts like [text3d]

Ok but why PC is better than MAC
Thanks for your answer.
but I can't use a MAC for my patch. I test this patch on power-pc, G5 and Mac book pro and that's always the same incredible cpu with text2d. I know that's text3d is more light than text2d but I don't like the video result.
So I use a pc now and with all my pc (windows or linux) it's ok with this. So MAC driver gfx-card are a problem with antialias and text2d or not?
Cheers Thomas

depends on your driver and gfx-card.
