Hi there, I have been lurking on the list for a while now, mostly just to see what is possible with pd/gem/framestein.
I have framestein 0.19 working find on an old machine but now I have installed the new version (framestein 0.31) onto another machine and nothing is output from framestein. The main problem seems to be with the avi supplied (it doesnt open in media player on the new machine), which I guess is codec related. Can anyone tell which codec needs to be installed in windows 98 for framestein video to work?
However also the text and sonogram examples dont display anything which makes me think it may be something else as well....
any ideas?
Kind regards
Dave mK

Hi David,
The example head.avi uses the Cinepak-codec, which really should be included in any windows installation. Anyway, for your clips, use any codec you wish / have, Framestein uses whatever your machine has much like Media Player. If an AVI plays in MP, it will play in FS.
About which codec to use: Cinepak is not too great in picture quality, but decompressing it takes really little CPU. I recently found this:
Check the MV3-codec. Good quality with ok filesize, designed with VJ's in mind.
There might be a problem with the text/sonogram-example. :(
Good luck!

hi david,
the video that comes with framestein(0.31)[head.avi] uses cinepak codec, should be in win98 distro (did you install video codecs) do you have directX7.1 or higher ? i got win2k+directx8 and FS works fine...
cheers -andre
