jusst add "-noautopatch" to the startup options.
Wow! By disabling autopatch with that option, the bug disappears! So it is definitely related, though I can't even imagine how.

False alarm. The bug does NOT disappear with -noautopatch. Only with the bug reporter's test patch the bug stops showing, but with my patches it persists.

so it's obviously not related to [wrap] :-)
this might also explain why i couldn't reproduce the bug when i last tried.
