afaik, latest instalments of openkinect will create an ordinary v4l2 device (actually 2) on linux, so you should be able to just use it with pdp, gem or gridflow.

afaik that what you call the point cloud is represented as a grayscale (or one color value) image where the (grey) value is the depth.
