Simon Fraser University currently offers Master's and PhD degrees in Computer Science with the possibility of studying various areas of Computer Music: Digital Audio Signal Processing, Sound Synthesis, and particularly Physical Modeling Synthesis. There is also opportunity to collaborate with SFU's School for the Contemporary Arts, the School of Interactive Arts and Technology, various relevant activities at UBC, as well as Vancouver's New Music scene, which is very much alive and well.
SFU is located on the West Coast of Canada, in the highly ethnic and culturally diverse Vancouver area. The province of British Columbia offers a tremendous variety of outdoor activities, including downhill/xcountry skiing a mere 30 minute drive from downtown Vancouver (so you can play AND still have time to get work done).
Deadlines: for Fall, February 1; for Spring, August 1; though exceptions can be made in some cases.
Interested students should contact Tamara Smyth (tamaras@cs.sfu.ca), their potential supervisor. Applications and additional information are available on the web.
