hi all,
i need a quick fix for a performance in two weeks. i would like to have a text-based interface to control a patch. ideally, i would like to type in a string of characters with each argument separated by white space and each string separated by a carriage return.
i reckon that someone has faced a similar situation and may already have a patch/extern that does this...anyone?
i did a quick search through the list and found (really old) discussions of string concatenation objects, but they looked to be for file naming. i suppose if someone had an extern that could take the output of key or keyname concatenate it, i could use that, too.
so if anyone has a patch or knows where i can find one of these things, i'd appreciate it.
thanks,
kerry

If I understand you correctly, it sounds like you can use the built-in pdsend from the command line without a problem. With [netreceive 3000 0 old] you automatically dispatch to "receive" objects that have the name of the first symbol that you type.
An example: % pdsend 3000 foo 1 2 3 4;
...would send the list "1 2 3 4" to a receiver named "foo".
I hope this model would fit into your patch... not a perfect solution, but it'll work with no extra externals or programming.
Cheers, adam

that sounds good enough for now. i'll try it out this afternoon (calif. time) and if it doesn't work, i'll be checking back in. but especially for time constraints it seems like the most efficient solution.
