I can make a patch demonstrating this if necessary, but I won't bother if this is known and there is reason for it.
It's an issue for me as I'm doing "instancing" in my abstractions and copy/pasting results in a "snaking" stream of instance-IDs
1 2 3 4 8 7 6 5
etc.
Again, if none of this makes sense give the word and I'll show an example.
If it's not too much trouble an example patch would be great because I don't really understand what you mean here.
