i somewhat understand the eagerness to see the performance of your own "product". i often look for that information for my own packages (e.g. on pypi). but to be honest, it is mostly to satisfy my own ego. and the practical implications are nil.
Seeing one's library being adopted can be a significant motivating factor, though. However, I totally see the danger of gamification and social competition, that's why I would be totally ok with not showing any kind of comparison or ranking.
