nope, the "right" pd is being found:
bash-2.05a$ which pd /Users/student/Desktop/pd-0.37-test8/bin/pd
Also, stuff like pd -help or pd -version execute fine, with expected results.
thanks anyway (anymore ideas would be great)

Error in startup script: couldn't read file "/usr/local/bin/pd.tk": no such file or directory
Anyone know how I can fix this?
Looks like there's a leftover "pd" executable in /usr/local/bin/ . Try verifying this with:
% which pd
If you get /usr/local/bin/pd, then that's the case. You should remove this binary.
it would also help to put /Users/student ... /bin *before* your $PATH, rather than after it. (But I'm not a Bash expert.)
hope that's some help, adam --
