It would even be good if there was a way to pick a new "color" in the IEM GUI color picker called "default" which then uses the color from Pd's bg for Background and Pd's fg for Front and Label.
0.56 already includes a commit by iohannes to handle a literal "default" color in the future which would ideally lead to a scenario like this - see: https://github.com/pure-data/pure-data/commit/b38ef00ebd9761cdbc744f198ee0ff...
i played around with this exact mechanism in https://github.com/ben-wes/pure-data/tree/feat/preserve-default-colors you can choose the "default" color with a new button in the gui properties. currently, this "default" color is internally handled as #FFFFFFFF (saved as "default" though), which is probably not a good solution. so obviously, this is merely a crude proof of concept. but feel free to test it for further discussion.
cheers, ben

I've set the following colors with Pd 0.56.0 "#e6e6e6 #202020 #0084ff" and it looks great, but when I put a bang, when that is not selected, it appears almost as a white rectangle, with its black circle being almost invisible (it is a bit more visible when I zoom in the patch). When I put a toggle, the two look almost identical, unless I click on the toggle and its X appears in it. A radio also appears as a white rectangle, with the lines that separate its cells being almost invisible.
Also, when setting a label to the GUI objects, this is almost invisible because its default color is black. I know I can change that in its settings, but is there a way to set this at start-up, as I do with the colors message by setting it in Preferences -> Startup?

Then later there could be a flag or setting "use Pd colors for new IEM guis" so that all newly created ones start with that default color set. Moving forward that would allow patching with better aesthetic consistency.

Chris.
