+1 vote from me also. First thing I do after installing the latest PD is adjust the colors to my liking, I don't find it that much work to change the few settings I usually do for gray/darker themes for night time programming. It would be extra nice to have that adjustable to the end user for easy day or night mode switching and the ability to save the settings to apply them to new updates would be icing on the cake.

To be clear, my only concern with assignment using hex values, is that I cannot redefine their value, as I can with named values, such as "black" or "white".
To respond to Dan, my concern with the white background is not only eye discomfort from glare, but also light spill during performance. I'm looking to control lighting when capturing hand gestures that drive graphics. A fully white screen becomes a potential problem then.

I think you can now use any hex color you want - I avoided those in the 90s when a lot of screens were color-mapped but that's a rarity nowadays.

Good to see there's a plan in gestation. I may well check out pdnext, but for now, I managed to change the white background to gray30. That has helped.
Some grep output:
tcl/pdwindow.tcl:336: .pdwindow.tcl.entry configure -background "gray30" tcl/pdwindow.tcl:407: option add *PdWindow*Text.background "gray30" startupFile tcl/pdwindow.tcl:408: option add *PdWindow*Entry.background "gray30" startupFile tcl/pdwindow.tcl:438: -background gray30 -foreground gray88
tcl/pdtk_canvas.tcl:134: -background gray30I used this tk rgb color map to lookup the names: https://www.tcl.tk/man/tcl/TkCmd/colors.htm <

I did see a lot of hex colors in the c code when I grepped for "color". That gave me pause, and undermined the idea that I might be able to make a brute force global change to the color palette used by tk on my system: https://www.sci.utah.edu/~chris/SCIRun/tcl/tk/tkColor.c <

Thanks for the info and advice!
