just an update:
when Pd is in Program Files(x86) it gets automatically the rights to
change the registry setting for Pd's preferences.
when Pd is somewhere else pd.exe needs to be set 'run as administrator';
but then every time at start-up one has to confirm this.

Hello List,
I have been checking the mail archive (
http://www.mail-archive.com/pd-list@iem.at/) to find a thread about
"gverb~" that someone posted a while back, but definitely this year,
however, the archive goes up to 2014. Does anyone know where I can find the
latest archive? or maybe someone knows where the gverb~ thread is, or the
author??
thank you all

Cool.

That’s related to the TK Cocoa backend rendering which brings the retina support.

It’s using the same Wish.app that coms with the pd source.

I have a performance coming up on Friday I’m preparing for, so I’ll be using one of the builds. Eat my own dog food.

hi, dear list !
sorry to bother you with yet another GEM problem:
WIN7 - 64bit, PD 0.46.7, GEM 0.93.3, quicktime installed.
when i try to save the render output with pix_write to a .tiff image, PD
crashes when the filename (including paths) exceeds 6 letters.
even when i succeed to write .tiff images, the console prints the
following error message:
ERROR: -50 in GraphicsExportSetOutputFile()
but the resulting file is a valid .tiff image
no problem with the jpg format.
(example patch is attached)

We are very happy to announce this call for paper for a special issue of
MIT Press Journal *Presence.*
Feel free to pass it on to whoever might be interested in.
Apologies for cross-posting!!
***
CfP: "*Arts, Aesthetics, and Performance in VR and Telepresence*"
Special Issue of *Presence: Teleoperators and Virtual Environments*
*Guest Editors: *
Myounghoon "Philart" Jeon (Michigan Tech)
Paul Fishwick (University of Texas at Dallas)
*Scope *
Art and technology have a similar origin, and until the 17th century were
not differentiated from each other (the Latin word “ars” – art – included
crafts and sciences). Since then, they have diverged, but with the rapid
technological advancement of the current era, art and technology have begun
to be *re*integrated. Recently, the application of computing to aesthetics
(or “art and design”) has proliferated. Thanks to new technologies, we can
expand the perceptual experiences of our existing senses and can even
create novel perceptual dimensions that have never been imagined – new
*presence*. Conversely, computing and technology can be influenced by arts
and aesthetics, in what we call “aesthetic computing”. The application of
art theory and practice to computing provides an opportunity to explore
more creative media, making the concept of computing more accessible and
promoting personalization and customization of computing structures. The
trend to integrate art and technology is pervasive in formal education:
STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) is evolving
into STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) by adding art
and design to the equation.
This year, the 25th anniversary of the journal *Presence*, may well be the
first year of a new virtual reality era, with a plethora of new and updated
virtual reality devices and technologies (Oculus DK, HTC Vive, Microsoft
HoloLens, etc.). Given the paradigm shift from cognitivism into embodiment,
the human body now has more opportunity for representation in computing
(gesture interaction, tangible user interface, etc.) than at any previous
time. In this line, virtual reality, which provides “presence” and
immersiveness, is becoming more important for embodied interactions.
Scientists and technologists can learn interaction techniques and
strategies from body expression experts – “artists”; and virtual reality
can provide an integrative, dynamic platform for arts and performances, a
living synthesis of which German composer Richard Wagner once dreamed in
his vision of “gesamtkunstwerk” – comprehensive work of art. We hope this
special issue can serve as a good step towards that goal.
*Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:*
· Performing arts in virtual reality or augmented reality
· Integrative arts (e.g., dance-based sonification, dance-based
visualization)
· Public displays including lay people in the performance
· Use of VR/AR to include people with disabilities in performance
or art galleries
· Paradigm, theory, and model of arts and aesthetics in VR and
telepresence
· Design research approach to performing arts in VR
· Methodologies and methods of evaluating performing arts in VR
· Design of new a sensor, device, or platform for arts-technology
integration
*Submission*
Manuscripts should conform to the journal’s submission guidelines:

Authors, please note that audio and video files can be hosted as

Pd-L2Ork beta release is now available (64bit version only for the time
being--final release will have both 32bit and 64bit). Please test and
report bugs. Thank you.

Best,
Ico
All of this is fixed in the autotools_updates branch BTW, so this shouldn’t be an issue in the future hopefully. A ‘make’ results in a working pd in place including externals.

hi, dear list !
stumbled across some problems recently when i tried to use pix_record in
GEM 0.93.3 (on a windows 7 64bit system) that i wanted to report.
1.)
message "codeclist" doesn't ouput anything.
the messages "codec 1" or "codec mjpa" or any other codec message just
prints the following error:
[pix_record]: unknown codec '
(mind the single quote at the end of the error message -> is that ok ?)
even though i have quicktime and DShow codecs installed.
the same goes for "dialog" ---> nothing happens ...
2.)
doing a recording worked though.
but: the resulting movie file had a BGRA colorspace and was flipped
vertically. i made a workaround by putting [pix_rgba] and [pix_flip]
with message "vertical" before [pix_record].
maybe that should be noted in a future helpfile.
3.)
the independent "bang" message to manually record frames does not work
as expected.
i tried it for some sort of stop-motion thingy. the resulting file had
the number of "banged" frames but the length of the recording (i.e. the
time between the message "record 1" and "record 0") !
each frame had a different timestamp.
to clean up this mess, i had to use ffmpeg:
ffmpeg -r 25 -i {input} -c:v mjpeg -q:v 0 {output}
4.)
the framerate of the recorded movie:
when i recorded in "auto" mode the result was actually quite good
(according to ffmpeg the codec is "mjpg" after all) but the framerate
was strange, it changed with the framerate of the gemwin but the
resulting file had a faster (!) framerate:
gemwin 20 ----> pix_record fps: 25
gemwin 25 ----> pix_record fps: 30
which means the recorded movie played back a little too fast
so here too, to get the real accurate recording framerate, i had to
correct the fps afterwards with ffmpeg. since this can't be done without
re-encoding, it's not really a good thing.
======================================================================
other than that: pix_record works great ! ;-)
hope this report is of some help
best
