Hello PD list,
Further to that response I gave about problems with OSC.
I'd like to make a feature request/bug report: when you try to create a
dumpOSC object using a port which is already in use, PD acts as if the object
cannot be created - it renders the box with a dashed outline and reports the
error "...couldn't create". This is actually very confusing as the user then
assumes that PD can't find the object code and tries to solve the problem by
checking library paths etc.
A better way of handling this error would be if the dumpOSC object, upon
finding that it can't attach to a port, sends an error message to that effect
to the PD console.
Any thoughts?
Cheers,
Richard

I cc'ed the list since this is off general interest:
This distro will work fine in -nogui mode. Just specify the -nogui
flag. The next release of this package will include the script /etc/
init.d/pd which helps you run Pd as a background daemon.

¡El pueblo unido jamás será vencido!
Hey,
I'm trying not to get frustrated, seeing how posts like this one (on
compiling externals for Windows) are either ignored or answered way too
cryptically:
http://lists.puredata.info/pipermail/pd-list/2007-06/051182.html
I posted a similar question to the "PURE DATA forum~" a few days ago, and so
far it too has gone unanswered:
http://puredata.hurleur.com/sujet-1029-problem-compiling-external-windows
Is compiling an external for Windows so mysterious that no one knows how to
do it? The responses that I've seen so far usually amount to "well this is
how it's done on linux, try changing this to that and maybe it'll work". The
famous external tutorial ( http://iem.at/pd/externals-HOWTO/ ) looks very
interesting, but it does me no good without knowing how to get from .c to
.pd ...
The request is simple: List the steps required (without skipping any!) to
take the C source file "helloworld.c" and make it into a usable object in
pd.
Someone, please, help me out. Also feel free to tackle the other specific
questions in my forum~ post. I'm sure there are plenty of other confused
Windows programmers out there.
Thanks.
hi tim again
i just noticed, that we have been talking off-list during this thread. i
post that to the list again (it might be interesting for others as
well).
what you describe, shouldn't happen. if you use '-rate 96000', as
mentioned in the help file of [writesf~], and the files still have
'44100' in their headers, then it is definitely a bug of pd,
respectively [writesf~]. i'm too lazy to test it now and here with
aiff-files (you are writing to aiff-files, right?).
yo, i only know how to fix the sampling rate header field in wav-files,
not in aiff-files unfortunately. the rate is written in the bytes 24-27
(when counting from 0) or in hex 0x00000018 -> 0x0000001B:
you will find there:
44 AC 00 00
(0x0000AC44 = 44100)
change this to:
00 77 01 00
(0x00017700 = 96000)
maybe it works similar for aiff-files, but i don't know.

Hi!
Few days ago I put a -verbose flag in startup flags and now I don't know how
to turn it off. Everything I do I always get many lines with tried-tried....
Thanks.

Hi all!
I'm using pd 0.40-1. I tried to install pyext but with no luck. I've put a
dll to extra dir. On pd startup I get this message:
py/pyext 0.2.0 - python script objects
(C)2002-2005 Thomas Grill - http://grrrr.org/ext
using Python 2.4.3 (#69, Mar 29 2006, 17:35:34) [MSC v.1310 32 bit (Intel)]
which seems to be good but when I tried to open some example patches, it
looks like pd doesn't recognize a pyext object....
What am I missing?
Thanks.
Bosko

I vote for "_". There is two perspectives: the user, and the developer of
pd. Often the user don't need to know about the exactly folder's tree. A
good documentation eschew the mess
