hi
when you open a patch by msg like [; pd open mypatch.pd .(
. is the directory, where pd was started from.
but when you read a file with [soundfiler] or [textfile],
. is the directory where the patch is saved.
why this difference?
it is no problem to share a patch with soundfiles, if you share
the whole directory, containing the patch and the soundfiles, if
you specify the soundfiles relatively.
but if you share a patch, that opens other patches by msgs, you
need to specify the path (…
[View More]in a msg or in an external textfile)
of the main-directory in order to have all things work correctly.
i'd propose to add an argument to the open-msg:
[; pd open mypatch.pd . 1(
opens the mypatch.pd relatively to the patch where this msg is in.
0 : takes the pd start location as root (in order to keep compatibility)
1 : takes the patch-root
or is there another solution for this problem?
cheers
roman

So,
I'm looking to get a laptop,
and I'd like to get the most out of pd with it.
(the whole portability thing is key)
in fact, pd use is one of the most important things
for the laptop.
does anyone have any recommendations to make?
is it even worth getting a laptop at this point in
time (pretending pd is its only use)?
thanks for your feedback.

Hello,
i'am new to Linux(Kubuntu 5.04) and new to PD, i am trying to set up my USB
MIDI Keyboard PCR-M30 in PD but it don't work.
In Rosegarden the Keyboard works fine but in PD there is no reaction at MIDI
when i Test MIDI and Audio.
There is following output in the console when
starting pd with pd -listdev
input devices:
1. OSS device #1
output devices
1. OSS device #1
API number 2
no midi input devices found
no midi output devices found
Opened Alsa Client 128 in:1 out:1
starting pd with …
[View More]pd -alsa -listdev
input devices:
1. Intel ICH (hardware)
2. Intel ICH (plug-in)
3. EDIROL PCR (hardware)
4. EDIROL PCR (plug-in)
output devices:
1. Intel ICH (hardware)
2. Intel ICH (plug-in)
3. EDIROL PCR (hardware)
4. EDIROL PCR (plug-in)
API number 1
no midi input devices found
no midi output devices found
Opened Alsa Client 128 in:1 out:1
If i try to use ALSA (OSS is default) following error message appears:
tried but couldn't sync A/D/A
I think there is something wrong with my Input Output devices, If i
understand it EDIROL PCR shouldn't be listed there. Instead of that they
should be listed at midi input and output devices, or?!
Can anybody help me? thanks
Christian

For use in a just-intonation sequencer; this calculates how far behind x to
draw the numerator and denominator, according to how many digits each has.
Probably not much use to anyone for this purpose, but I thought I'd throw it
out there.

I've been saving a lot more than just notes in my score files, so I made
this patch to skip past the things I'm not looking for. Maybe I wouldn't
need the delay if I raised my latency, I haven't tried it. If it looks
useful, try it.

hi,
my *nix-experience is long ago + running out of time, so: has someone
of you made a shellscript running on OS X, that recognizes if Pd is
still runnig (with ps -cx | grep "pd" ?) and if it is not, restart Pd?
thanks! rainer.
Hallo!

yes, and what is the output of the [linebreak] object? A long symbol, or a
atom list ...

and how?

thinking about the old discussion about segmented patch cords... i was
analyzing my mode of operating with pd: often i make [+ 0] or [*~ 1]
object just to facilitate patching, or to keep cords tidy.
i think when pd finds such object, it can just represent it with a
smaller box, to indicate it is just a thru box, a "node", a dot, or so.
it think this wouldn't compromise anything... which other appliance
could have a [*~ 1] object, or a [+ 0] or [* 1] without wires on the
right inlet? ;)
…
