hi all,
i recently got an old notebook (p2, 400mhz), i'd like to set up as a
hard disk recorder ...
i'd like to build a recording patch (wav / mp3 / ogg) and start it from
the command line (i'd prefer not to run an x server on this machine) ...
but how is it possible to interact with pd without the gui or some kind
of midi device? is it possible to send messages to pd from the command
line (maybe via netsend/recieve or osc)

about 80% of the externals compiled on the first try, the majority that dont are in /chaos/ and make use of 'srand48' and 'drand48'... & a few others using network or microtime functions...
if youre using the main branch of CVS or 0.37.1, delete the MSW #ifdef's in s_entry.c just leaving the "else" case and same thing in m_pd.h for the dllimport/export lines..…

By the Edirol being programmable I meant that the effects themselves could be programmable, kind of like a Nord
Modular for video manipulation. If it was like that I would definitely try to find a way to get it, as I
probably wouldn't need more than a few distinct effects.

I don't quite understand why the Motu would make the difference over the Audigy. Basically, PD outputs with
dac~ to which you could give as many arguements as you have channels, right? So why wouldn't "dac~ 1 2 3 4 5 6
7" give seven channel sound? And if that wouldn't work with the Audigy, why would it with the Motu?

Yikes, with my limited knowledge of sythesis, I don't think I've ever come close to overloading my single
Athlon 1.7ghz. This …

synthesis than I have been using. But even a dual Athlon like yours is out of range for this project. I'm sure,

This is what I expected. In this case I don't think I will worry too much about quietness, as the audience's
distance from the machinery, the ambient noise, and the noise of the performance itself will drown out computer
noise. Also I probably won't be taking straight samples and rebroadcasting them, so ambient noise on the mics
shouldn't be too big a problem. Rather, I intended to use mics as a poor man's sensor, whereby if the analyzed
input to the mic has certain characteristics, another event will be triggered. Noise could easily be canceled
out by calibrating the analysis correctly.

something as simple as a 100$ Creative Audigy 2 would be enough as it has 5.1 (7.1?) perhaps not.. But with
something like the video mixer, since all it needs is midi, I could do audio and control the mixer all on one
computer. The thing I would worry about is limitations of the mixer if it is not programmable (I haven't had
time to really go over the Edirol's specs in detail yet--it may be programmable).
