Hi,
I was having this same problem.. it turned out that the VST path was not defined properly. just make a .bat file that sets the VST path before starting PD.

It has become apparent to me that primarily because
Of time comitments that I am unable to support the vst~
Object. Therefore it is no longer available - if someone
Wishes to take over (and provide the support that it requires)
Then I will be more than happy to hand it over - I still belive
It is a useful object but there are so many different versions
Of Pd ,different setups and different VST's that I cannot
Support it at present.
I will give thought to an unsupported source code only release if
There is enough demand.
Thankyou for all your interest in this external and total respect
To all you guys out there who are managing to run this kind
Of project - in particular Miller for PD itself.
Cheers
Mark

I am sorry you haven't been able to get the vst~ external working -
>From the emails you sent the problem is with PD finding the
external as far as I can tell rather than any problem with the
External itself.
There aren't any other VST externals that support VST instruments
But the plugin~ object does support some VST 1 plugins. Check
Pure-data.org I guess or do a google for it.
Failing that you will have to do what I did and write your own
That works to your satisfaction

When I try to use zexy externals under Windows 98, installed from
zexy-nt-1_1.zip, I get a raft of errors to the console. Opening the
externals, I see that there are no connectors between objects.
For example, trying multiplex~ gives the messages:
error: multiplex~ : can't load abstraction inside itself
multiplex~
...couldn't create

Has anyone successfully managed to run PD on a handheld?
If so, I would be very grateful if you would let me know
which handheld and OS you tried, what kind of difficulties
you encountered, and other such things.
Thanks.

I am currently working on an iPaq as part of our
(at work this is ) wireless strategy - building a proof
Of concept for my designs.
Obviously when I got this lovely bit of kit my thoughts
Turned to PD - the bit I am missing is TCL/TK - there is
One availble but it doesn't have the bits (libraries/header
Files) needed to link it into PD. This is a real bugger 'cos I
Believe that the rest of PD would compile for Pocket PC 2002
My new theory is to build a control app that connects to
PD via a plugin external - the control app would have knobs,
Number boxes etc and just do send messages. As it happens the
Interface kit I am writing for the stuff at work will nicely
Double up for this job too. Hmm odd that... Anyway far to
Busy at the moment but hopefully I will get something out
Sometime over the summer.
I'm also working on a (non dance oriented) Drum machine
based on my monorythm thingy that will hopefully be
released for Pocket PC as well as the desktop.
This little contraption (iPaq) is crying out for music software.
Cheers
Mark

Dear Claudio,
There have bee some quite detailed discussions on the list with regards to this topic.
Go here: http://iem.kug.ac.at/mailinglists/pd-list/ and type "laptop" in the search and check "search all paths".
You get loads, but a couple of good threads are: Re: [PD] It really works!,,and laptops, from round about December 2001, and Re: [PD] PD on a laptop??, round about September 2001. But check out others as well - just to be sure! ; )
Cheers,
Elise.

Subject: [PD] Notebook and PD... an advice
Hi,
I'm using Pd under Linux, and for pratical matter I would like install PD on a notebook. Reading in some forum I've pondered the idea that notebook are not good for audio despite the power in terms of memory and processor.
If someone works with a notebook Could help me to choose a model that work well with PD under Linux?
Ciao
Claudio
Hi all,
I'm trying to fine tune the latency for a pd/realtime setup.
The system:
Debian/Unstable
Intel P4 1.8ghz
M-Audio Delta-44 (ice1712 driver)
Alsa 0.9
Kernel 2.4.19-pre10 + A. Morton's latest Low-Latency patch
echo 1 > /proc/sys/kernel/lowlatency
pd -alsadev hw:0,0 -rt
So far PD's best possible latency is 8 fragments (11 millisec. audio
buffer). Below this it is completely unable to keep up.
Is there room for improvement in this setup? (Replacing the sound
device is an option... I need as many channels as possible and latency
in the 1-3 ms range).

no it needs to be listed as a -lib argument. the -path just gives PD a bunch
of places to look for stuff if it cant find say, a user made abstraction.
