In my experience Macs have an automatic cross-connection jumper thingy built in. You can use a regular cable to connect a Mac to either another Mac or even a Windows PC. This worked for me with a G4 Powerbook and a Windows XP Pro Generic Lappie.

My questions are:
Can I connect the computers via ethertnet? How?
with a cable.

one cross-cable or two straight cables hooked on a hub or switch
What do I need to do to setup the ports and IP addresses?
just make sure it's on the same network (same ip range, same netmask ...)
example: pc = 192.168.0.10 mac = 192.168.0.11 netmask 255.255.255.0
make sure you don't have any firewall running on both machines, or you may not go very far with netsend/netreceive.
