If I understand you correctly, you will need to iterate over the file, counting each line as you iterate over it. You could also try using one of the externals that handles shell commands and then use 'wc' to count the words and lines in your file.

Hello,
Maybe I am missing something. I want to print the number of lines in a text file loaded into 'msgfile' OR equivalent object. The object seems to do everything but that!! Am i missing something right in front of me? I just need to know the number of lines in a text file that i load...
Thanks!!!
BTW 'msgfile-help.pd' is missing in my pd-extended recent auto-build...
cheers mark
