hello all,
i'm very new to pd and gem. i've gone through a gem tutorial and get the idea of some of what can be done with respect to manipulating images, movie clips, and 3d. what i'm wondering is about is using gem to create patches closer to analog video synthesis.
if you`re thinking of emulating analog video synthesizers you maybe should rather have a look at the possibilities of pdp and pidip than gem (as its more like a 3d environment while pdp is more like the 2d video stuff). the problem (well somehow maybe only for me) is that pdp is only available for linux (and about one year ago it always took me about a month to get a real good working debian/pd/gem/pdp/gemtopdp/ pdptogem working environment... maybe its easier nowadays... all i can say is that if you have time its for shure worth the effort)
a friend and i work on this type of equipment, analog signal generators, pulse generators, etc. and create video images on tv screens. i'm curious to find a software solution and wondering if gem is the way to go.
if anyone has some experience with this, i would appreciate any links to info or patches.
thanks, paris
