Is this compatible with leaving the default font weight bold? That also corrects the too-thin text. I find in general having default font-weight bold makes it possible to read everything from further away and/or in more crowded patches.

@Miller, can you look into including DejaVu Sans Mono with the OS X release? It *really* fixes this. There is a "dejavu" branch which only includes the font, no metrics changes.

Ok, that's because I was experimenting with flags, like "verbose", and also "Use standard extensions"... with the latter unchecked, I learn that you can't load help files.
But there's still the other thing I said, that it still "looks weird"
