it doesn't "improve" anything (this is just marketing speak from nintendo). it gives you another tuplet of sensors (gyros), which can be used to measure similar things as the standards accelerometers, and they allow you to measure rotation around the gravitation axis (which accelerometers cannot do)
you can use them in Pd (at least with the "wiimote" external) "just like" with the wii console.
