For the solder-challenged, STEIM will be releasing a very inexpensive AD converter setup quite similar to the AID project sometime this summer or fall. It will have 8 or 12 (can't recall!) inputs for external sensors which should be pretty usable with whatever you want to plug in: potentiometers, sliders, joysticks, bend/pressure sensors, acellerometers, light sensors, etc etc. Should market for less than EUR 200, and work with the HID objects I imagine.
