AFAIK pix_video on in GEM on windows is highly unstable. I tried it a couple of times with a Quickcam VC (USB) but I've never catched more than one frame (on win2k).
really that surprises me. the longest run i had with the [pix_video] object under NT was for some months (ok, i did a reboot each night, and sometimes it still hung, but that's windoof...) i had to hack the object then to be able to restart the driver (because of some counter overrun - entirely windoof) now and then, but unfortunately i have lost the code....
Pix_video under NT is rather particular about how it tries to configure the capture device... It also doesn't support DV cameras because such devices aren't exposed to VideoForWindows.
I'll post some (alpha) video input objects which I've written for NT which provide a bit more functionality. There's one for VideoForWindows and another for DirectShow which does allow DV devices to be used.
Watch the list... I'll post a link soon.
