which linux version do u recommend for a noobie linux user that want to use it for nasty pd patching????
I highly recommend AGNUlA/Demudi, which I have test-installed now and found it to be an impressively easy way to get a full audio Linux installed in no time:

(Try the bittorrent download, it's damn fast.)
A/Demudi has a very helpful mailing list and more current Pd packages (done by Guenther Geiger) than Planet CCRMA. And it is based on Debian, which means, that you have about 10,000 regular software packages only one command away for installation, as many as no other distribution comes even close to.
Demudi uses the new Debian installer, so unless you do anything really stupid like formatting /dev/hda, it's absolutely foolproof IMO. Demudi installs in about 1.4 GB when all packages are selected, add swap and (possibly a lot of) home space to this, and you will need about 3-5 GB for it.
A lot of the Linux-users at the Pd convention ran Debian, AFAIR. Anyone didn't?
