if he wants to stay cheap (and bulky) you best tell him/her to get a used 3660 from ebay and have the battery exchanged. should be around $200. if he/she has money the zaurus is the way to go, isn't it, guenter.

I have a student who wants to start using this. Can you recommend a few PDAs that are known to work with PDa?

what's the current state of gg's PDA? what is the most reliable machine for this? what about documentation? (gige.xdv.org/ is down, right?)
Hi,
yes, gige.xdv.org is down. You can get the files temporarily from http://xdv.org/~gige/Pda/ No docs, mainly because I don't know what kind of problems people have with the software (and because of lack of time and focus). I, myself, had different kind of problems when installing it on different machines. I am planning to set up a new website with a FAQ for PDa.
Theoretically you just have to install the ipkg and it will work, practically this will only work on few systems.
I know from two persons that they got it running (Johannes was using the old version at pd convention and pi sent me an update to the makefile once ...).
Cheers, Guenter
