I think there was some reason I though casting int to symbol would cause a subtle but big problem, but now I can't remember what it was. If you throw in the "makefilename" code (my previous message) you can use that object to do the conversion explicitly; just use "makefilename %d".
What about a more general "sprintf" object, where the number of % in the format gives us the number of inlets. -> more general -> making file names is not all it can be used for (make array names ...)
