Hi ref,
If you are considering installing Linux on a laptop, I recommend that you check http://www.linux-laptop.net/, and Google to see whether someone has already successfully installed a particular distro on your hardware. It will make your life a lot easier if there is already a 'how-to' you can follow.

I´m migrating from windows to linux, but to which distro? I intend using PD, sequencers and softsynths.
A friend highly recommended fedora core 4 and the ccrma pack, but I heard about GeeXboX, dyne:bolic, and DeMuDi, which all are called "multimedia distros"..
Therefore: ???
I will appreciate advices!
thanx ref
