this is unrelated, but does pd have a step function (a la an IDE)?
the bang function somebody else mentioned is a half-assed version of this. max has one, though it's not that well done, that i can show you if you don't know what i mean. (the visual studio one i think it pretty good, but it doesn't translate directly to the visual object-connection interface. the best way to do this would involve some sort of highlighting in the GUI - max doesn't do this, nor anything else all that helpful. would be awesome for debugging.
so yeah, run through the processing tree, hgihlight each point and give sets of values (perhaps visually in GUI as well as in pd window) whenever appropriate (snag at large tables, etc.).
