Hubble's law is the basis for _observing_ the expansion of the =20 universe. Einstein introduced his cosmological constant to stop his =20 universe from expanding because he didn't want to believe that it =20 was. He ended up dropping it, referring to it as his biggest mistake =20 and personally thanking Hubble.
Just wondering how that discussion came in pd-list, you might talk about Doppler-Fizeau effect?
I hope you are aware that it's not Hubble, but Lemaitre that has written the 'Hubble Law', and evidences shows that the red color is an intrinsic property instead of shifting effect for most of space objects, otherwise some quasars would travel faster than light...
