International Symposium on Computational Aesthetics
in Graphics, Visualization, and Imaging Call for Artwork, Papers and Posters 5–7 August 2011 in Vancouver, Canada
Co-located with SIGGRAPH 2011 http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/conference/cae-sbim-npar-2011/CAe/Home
Computational Aesthetics bridges the analytic and synthetic by integrating aspects of computer science, philosophy, psychology, and the fine, applied & performing arts. It seeks to facilitate both the analysis and the augmentation of creative behaviours. CAe also investigates the creation of tools that can enhance the expressive power of the fine and applied arts and furthers our understanding of aesthetic evaluation, perception and meaning.
Many digital images testify of the software with which they were created. Writing the software that underlies these computational tools is a cultural activity with a significant (but often overlooked) creative impact. The programmers of these computational tools define cultural processes as they shape code with their own mental images and worldviews. We want to emphasize the role of software creation as an aesthetic cultural activity, and are soliciting artwork and papers/artist’s presentations that explore this space. Submissions should be made via the Computational Aesthetics conference management system at https://cmt.research.microsoft.com/CSN2011/. When starting a new submission, please select the “Computational Aesthetics: Artworks” track for artworks, or “Computational Aesthetics: Arts” for papers. Extended deadline: Monday 25 April 2011
Technical submissions are invited across the broad range of areas covered by Computational Aesthetics. Paper submissions should be made via the Computational Aesthetics conference management system at https://cmt.research.microsoft.com/CSN2011/. When starting a new submission, please select the “Computational Aesthetics: Technical” track. Submission deadline: Monday 25 April 2011
Poster submissions are an opportunity to present and discuss work in progress without publication. Technical, artistic and posters that mix the two are all welcome. Please send your extended abstract and (optional, but highly encouraged) a draft of the poster or any additional supporting material or links by email to Bernhard Riecke: ber1 [at] sfu [dot] ca in PDF format. Please ensure each file is below 3 MB. Please add “CAe Poster Submission” to the Subject line. Submission deadline for posters: Monday 2 May 2011
