Data structures recently got "visibility" switches, which could open an interesting new way of workarounds here. Imagine you build a clickable area, either using [tot] or an array of radio buttons, maybe hidden with a canvas. On top of them, you could put your data structures whose visibility is then switched on and off according to mouse actions.
