ok but do I need to install those codecs or can I just drop a dll inside GEM? my main problem is that I cannot install anything on those machines (well, I can but it will take weeks and a few layers of bureaucracy)

Yeah I was going to mention the ffdshow stuff. That’s exactly what we used here. Worked great. Quicktime not needed.

yeah windows 8 I think (cannot check until later today)
Quicktime isn't needed for Gem video playback, but FFMPEG should be at hand, to provide fast and quick video conversion.
my best experience with Gem on win is using an MJPEG codec within an .avi container. you will probably need ffdshow codecs (or another codec pack that contains mjpeg) to play them.
make sure to have 32bit versions of PD, Gem, AND your codecs !
another fine codec that works with Gem is UT (higher quality images but larger filesices). in general all image-based codecs for the .avi container that are installed and running on windows should work. wmv probably too

sorry I thought about specifying the OS in the email but then I forgot in the last moment 18/11/28 02:15(e)an, mark edward grimm (megrimm) igorleak idatzi zuen:
What system? I’m assuming windows...
I ask because I teach a summer course and the problem you speak of sounds familiar.

hi
I started teaching a course on using PD for real time sound and graphics and I just discovered that the computers do not have QuickTime installed. Getting it installed is going to take weeks. Too late for the course I am afraid.
is there some way to incorporate manually into the GEM folder the required dlls and files from a QuickTime install in another machine?
if this would be feasible, which ones should I copy and where should they be? I made some quick tests with no luck.
thanks
