On mac osx you use a \ to escape the spaces, if I recall correctly.

I think you can work around this problem in windows by using the legacy dos (8.3 characters) filename. You can find the 8.3 name with dir (with some option).
This is off course a "dirty" solution and it's only valid on windows. I wished there was a general character escape mechanism in messages in PD.
